Which sectors does MentX serve?

MentX is built for SMEs and family businesses where expertise concentrates in one or a few people and takes decades to form: manufacturing, engineering firms, family-owned industrials, machine builders, installation and maintenance companies, and professional services. The common thread is not the sector itself — it is a business whose real operating manual lives in someone's head.

What makes a sector knowledge-concentrated?

Three ingredients, usually together. Long feedback loops: it takes years to see enough failures, clients and edge cases to develop judgment. An installed base or client history that outlives any document: machines running for decades, relationships spanning generations of owners. And small teams: there was never a second person to duplicate the knowledge into. Where these overlap, one departure can outweigh a bad year.

Manufacturing

Process knowledge — why the line is tuned this way, which deviations matter and which don't — accumulates in a plant manager or senior operator and rarely survives their departure in usable form.

Engineering firms

Design rationale is the product. The drawings show what was decided; the senior engineer knows why, what was rejected, and what will go wrong if a successor "improves" it.

Family-owned industrials

The knowledge holder is often the owner, and the transfer moment coincides with succession — two hard transitions on the same person at the same time. The next generation inherits shares faster than judgment.

Machine builders

Every machine in the field is a variant, and one or two people know the installed base by heart — which customer runs which configuration, and what was customized in 2011 and why.

Installation & maintenance

Diagnostic skill — hearing what is wrong before the instruments do — is the classic tacit knowledge. It lives in lead technicians and transfers only through years of riding along.

Professional services

Client knowledge and case judgment concentrate in founding partners. When a partner retires, the firm keeps the files and loses the reading of them.

How MentX fits each sector

The capture is the same everywhere — Connect the meetings, Deepen with the guided intake, Converse through DigiME — but the Knowledge Space is scoped per sector: which meetings, which intake themes, which questions the team will ask. That scoping is the first thing we do with founding partners.

Each sector name above links to its dedicated page: the knowledge at risk, the trigger moments, and what a Knowledge Space looks like there.
