Digital twin of an organization
A digital twin of an organization is a dynamic model of how a company works — its processes, roles, systems, data, rules and performance — kept current enough to analyse the effect of changes before making them. It extends the idea of a digital twin from physical assets to the organization as a whole.
What is a digital twin of an organization?
It is usually built from a process repository, system data (often through process mining), organizational data and measures, sometimes with simulation on top. Its value depends on how current it is, and on whether it captures the rules and knowledge behind the processes — not only the flows the systems record.
Full versions are typically found in large organizations with many systems and a team to maintain them.
Not to be confused with a digital twin of an expert or a digital knowledge copy, which represents one person's knowledge and reasoning rather than the whole organization.
Why it matters for SMEs
For example: before a merger, a family manufacturer considers a digital twin of both companies. Its real questions — which processes differ, who holds the knowledge of each, which steps will break — are answered with process maps and conversations, the foundation any twin would need anyway.
For SMEs, that foundation is useful on its own. See does a 20-person company need one?
Digital twin of an organization in the MentX approach
MentX captures how your company really works: the knowledge of your key people and the processes they run. We offer both a hands-on service approach — mapping your processes and capturing the knowledge behind them, from meetings, workshops and a guided intake — and our own personality-aware knowledge base, with full source attribution, in your own Knowledge Space. We build on the tools you already use and add best-practice solutions where they fit.
Mapping your processes and capturing your operations build the foundation of a digital twin of your organization: processes, owners, rules, exceptions and data, with their sources. Where more is needed later, it builds on that foundation with established solutions.
